Abstract:

Efforts at national and international levels aim to build modern data infrastructures for research, fostering data literacy and sustainable data culture. Effective research data management (RDM) involves securely storing, accessing, and reusing research data, requiring a shift in research culture and integration into workflows and tools.

Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) committed to providing a robust RDM infrastructure. Co-developed with researchers, RUB’s institutional repository ReSeeD supports complex data models, early data sharing, curation, and publication with DOI. The Hyrax open-source repository platform was chosen for its flexibility and community support. ReSeeD integrates with native S3 storage and uses Shibboleth for authentication.

ReSeeD supports FAIR data principles and discipline-specific requirements, offering fine-grained role management for collaborative research. It was launched as an institutional service in 2023, with future developments envisaged to fit the needs of a wide range of research areas. With special attention to the digital humanities, this approach enables the preservation of and access to diverse digital artifacts, enhancing interdisciplinary research and collaboration. ReSeeD encompasses different user experiences, offering both an easy-to-use web interface for the manual management of research data as well as a sophisticated bulk importer. Individual support is provided by RUB Research Data Services for more advanced requirements.
